Where Have The Leaders Gone?

July 1, 2017

We still face division amongst people because we don't have anyone to speak out for unity. We've become dependent on leaders whose inherent existence requires them to belong to a particular team.

Worse yet, the head and the tail has been cut off, and now that body has been left without direction. The body no longer can distinguish the good leaders from the bad. Rather now, the body has been reduced to simply deciding on which is the most palatable direction to follow.

The body has been forced to accept that truth to the leader now is adjustable and only as stable as the perception it projects. Good leaders now are the ones who commit the least felonious of sins. However, the list of what the body will consider acceptable continues to grow larger.

When did we decide that what we needed were leaders "just like us." Someone who is as flawed and as intolerant as we can be? When did we lose our desire for a leader who represented what we all strived to be?

Worse yet, when did we allow leaders to rise amongst us who represented the absolute ugliest sides of us? Suddenly, no longer does the leader constitute an excuse for our bad behavior. No, now we have to bend our ethical principles to justify the leader's actions instead.

Now we stand on either side of each other defending the leaders of our teams. Yelling, like a loving parent trying to protect their child, all while deep down, knowing that their kid is a definitely at fault.

Imagine if we remembered that the leaders are a product of us. We are not a product of them. Imagine if we recognized the power we all yield and that we collectively are the creators of our future. Imagine, if we demanded a leader not like us, rather a leader like the judges of old. A leader whose direction was dependent only on the bonds that bind us all together.

Imagine leaders who realized the greatest threat to the world was not a weapon made by man. Rather, the most serious threat to humanity is a failure to cultivate the mind to have a thirst for wisdom. Imagine leaders who stood up and declared that bodies fall in the streets, not simply from the weapons that dropped them. Rather from the undeveloped minds that used them.

Where have our leaders gone? Is there no one left amongst us? Don't abandon us in our time of need great leaders; please have the courage to stand up. Don't wait until it's too late. Because the biggest loss of all would be the day that we need you, great leaders, however, you no longer need us.
